Visit from SPCC Nursing Students

image

Several nursing students from SPCC came to visit Stegall Home and help us with a Christmas craft for our families.  They also brought several goodies for the home and we are so grateful.  The guys truly enjoyed their time with them and hope they come back soon!  Thank you for taking the time to make our evening special!

Fieldtrip to Tyson-Guillard Farm

imageimageimage

The residents Compensatory Education class at South Piedmont Community College went on a fieldtrip Tuesday, October 25th, to Tyson-Guillard Farm in Monroe.  The class toured the farm and watched how soybeans were processed.  They were also shown how to plant wheat.  Two Union County police officers volunteered their time and escorted the caravan to the farm- how cool is that!  They also gave Sedrick the full service treatment by riding him on the 4 wheeler all around the farm, to the applause of his classmates.  The best part of their whole trip was seeing the tractor trailer truck back up to the silo and collect the soybeans.  Everyone learned a lot and truly enjoyed their time “down on the farm”, and they are looking forward to going back when it’s time to harvest the wheat!

Broyhill, Bocce Ball, and Brotherhood

image

Stegall Home residents and other Union County Special Olympic athletes competed in the Bocce ball state games this Saturday, October 22nd, in Candler, NC.  Ronnie competed as a single and came away with the bronze medal.  Carey, Mike, and Billy were part of a team and won their first 2 matches to win a gold medal, unfortunately it was later realized that we had played a team that was not in our division, so the men chose to play the correct team and came away with a silver medal.  In the words of Mike…“I got 2 good medals”!  That’s what counts!

The residents spent Friday night at the Broyhill campus of Baptist Children’s Homes in Clyde, NC (Sutton Cottage), so that they would not have to leave so early Saturday morning.  We sincerely appreciate the kindness of Broyhill home for allowing us to stay on their campus- it was absolutely beautiful!

The residents enjoyed spending time together, going out to eat, looking at the leaves, seeing old and meeting new friends!

Thank God for Girl Scouts!

imageimageimageimageimage

Stegall Home residents were blessed by Girl Scout Troop 91 coming to our home to spend the evening with us.  They kicked off the night by cleaning out our garden beds and planting some new fall vegetables:  collard greens, cabbage, and turnips.  Then we got down to the nitty gritty- cooking!  Each resident helped prepare part of the evening meal with the help of the girls- we had spaghetti, salad, and garlic bread- YUMMY!  We ended the night by watching the movie Underdog and sharing popcorn, and every kind of M&M under the sun!  We would like to thank everyone with Girl Scout Troop 91 for taking the time to fellowship with us and for making our evening so special!
