Christmas Time at the Billy Graham Library

The “Magnifiers” class of Hopewell Baptist Church, which inclues our residents from Stegall Home, along with the “Christian Crusaders” class from Lee Park Baptist visited the Billy Graham Library on Dec. 11th.  We rode on the huge Hopewell Church bus, which was a treat in itself.  We ate at the Graham Brothers Diner- yummy!  smile  We toured the magnificent library and learned about the amazing man Billy Graham is and the many lives he has touched through God.  The lights and sounds were spectacular!  The return trip home was great too- just being able to look at all of the Christmas lights!
A special thank you to Jimmy and Shan Mullis for driving the bus for us, and for all of the Sunday School teachers that went with us!  You made the trip extra special!  Thank you to Lee Park for your friendship too!  Merry Christmas!!!!!

Stegall Residents “Bowl” Us Over

Residents from Stegall Home competed in the Western Division State Bowling Tournament for Special Olympics in Newton on Sunday, Dec. 5th.  Sedrick competed in the singles group and came away with the bronze medal.  Ronnie and Billy competed as doubles and also won the bronze medal.  David, Carey, and Mike were on a team with some other olympians from Union County and they won the silver medal.  They bowled 7 games tirelessly and showed great team effort and enthusiasm- they looked and acted like professional bowlers!
After their awards were presented they were thrilled to have their pictures made with the ladies from “Hooters”- of course, that was the highlight of the day!  wink
Congratulations, guys!

Christmas Spirit Shines Through

image

The staff and residents of Stegall Home volunteered at the Union County Christmas Bureau on Saturday, Dec. 4th along with our friends from Lee Park Baptist Church.  We had lots and lots of food to sort and were planning a return trip in order to get it all done, BUT we had such teamwork that we accomplished sorting all of the food in less than 2 hours!  We had a great time and our hearts were blessed by the people who gave the items to be sorted and we prayed over the people that would be receiving these items- that their holidays would be blessed beyond measure and the true meaning of Christmas would be made known to each and every one- that we serve a risen Savior who left His heavenly realm as a King to become man and save us from our sins!  Merry CHRISTmas!!

Busy, Busy, Busy!

We are so busy here at Stegall Home and I apologize for not posting the whole month of November.  This is the time of year we hit the floor with both feet running and there never seem to be enough hours in the day.

The month of November was so eventful, especially with the group home being able to participate in the Baptist State Convention presentation for Baptist Children’s Homes 125th Anniversary.  We practiced and practiced for this special day and were able to show off what BCH is all about in Greensboro on November 8th.  What an exciting time that was and Jesus really showed up and showed out!

We were also involved in a Special Ministries Sunday at Lee Park Baptist Church where the members from Lee Park sang and one of the members from their special needs class brough the sermon.  He is an ordained minister and talk about “Holy!”  We were so blessed to be allowed to be a small part of their worship service!

We also went to Rocky River Baptist in Polkton for their worship time and got to share a little bit about Baptist Children’s Homes- everyone was so kind and thoughtful!

Polkton Baptist invited us to their Poor Man’s Supper on Nov. 19th.  They also had a cake auction and the proceeds from both go to benefit Baptist Children’s Homes.  The guys sang and of course enjoyed the fantastic food and fellowship!

We participated in the Monroe Christmas Parade on Sunday, Nov. 21st.  We rode on the Kiwanis float and waved and smiled till we were frozen in that position.  Carey got to ride in an antique Model T car as the Civitans Special Citizen of the Year- what a treat!

It’s hard to believe Thanksgiving came and went so quickly- we all have so much to be thankful for, but especially for the fact the God sent his one and only Son to die on an old rugged cross for little ‘ol me, and that when I ask forgiveness for my sins He remembers them no more!  Hallelujah, What a Savior!
