“Are You Ready for Some Football?!?”

imageimageimageimage

Stegall Home residents and other Special Olympic athletes attended the 8th annual Special Olympics Field Day at Wingate University on Saturday, August 27th- hosted by the Wingate Bulldogs Football Team.  The Special Olympians were all paired up with a Wingate Football player and were taught how to sack the quarterback, catch and throw passes, spike the football and do their victory dance in the endzone!  What fun!  They were able to tour the locker room and weight room.  The Special Olympians all got to wear the Bulldog practice jerseys and were simply given the royal treatment!  They each received a Wingate Football t-shirt and certificate, and were invited to the Wingate Bulldog home games!  Thank you Wingate University Bulldogs for the great experience- we can’t wait until next year- GO BULLDOGS!

Sometimes Sedrick Dreams Do Come True!

imageimage

Sedrick has recently had some big moments happen in his life!  The first being that Sedrick is now the proud owner of a brand new electric blue wheelchair- one that actually fits him- Hallelujah!  This is his “Cadillac Escelade” as he affectionately calls it!  He is so thankful for all of the effort that went into making this chair a possibility, especially to Ms. Laura McAliley from Chair & Equipment!  Thank you, Ms. Laura!

The next big thing has always been a dream of Sedrick’s- since the age of 4 when Sedrick was injured and found himself confined to a wheelchair he has had a passion to one day walk again, knowing that when he gets to heaven he would be running on streets of gold, Sedrick was okay with the possibility that walking again may not happen here on this earth, but that was not going to stop him from trying.  Sedrick has been through a lot of therapy, different braces, botox injections and other “attempts” to help in this department with little to no improvements.  There was one last shot to making Sedrick’s dream come true in his earthly body and that was to have surgery- not our favorite choice, but one in which Sedrick showed no hesitation at wanting to have done.  This past Thursday, Sedrick underwent heel-cord lengthening surgery on both feet.  The surgeon strongly feels that this is Sedrick’s best chance of walking!  Yes, I said WALKING!!!!  Sedrick will be in cast on both legs for approximately 3 months, and oh the JOY he has even through the pain and discomfort, because he has claimed in Jesus’ name that HE WILL WALK AGAIN!  He has even gone so far as to make the statement that he will walk into Hopewell Baptist Church and push Dr. Lee Pigg aside to deliver a sermon- Oh Happy Day!  We might as well just have the invitation once his feet hit the church doors!  Pastor Lee has commented in church that Sedrick is going to be cutting cartwheels down the aisles of the church!  We can not wait to see what miracles Jesus has in store for Sedrick!  We thank everyone for all of their prayers, calls, cards, well wishes, and visits- Jesus is Alive and on the Throne and it is evident in the love His people are showing to us!  HALLELUJAH, What a Savior!

Happiness Retreat 2011- Big Apple Adventure

imageimageimageimageimage

Stegall Home and friends from the “Magnifiers” Sunday School Class of Hopewell Baptist Church attended Happiness Retreat at the end of July at Camp Caraway in Asheboro.  This is an event sponsored by the Baptist State Convention and is the highlight of our year!  We had a group of 11 attend this year and what a great time we had.  We prepare for the talent show all year long and once one Happiness Retreat is over we are gearing up for what to do at next year’s retreat- we sang “Come As You Are” as a group act- then Sedrick, Ronnie, and David performed solo acts!  Talk about bringing down the house!
We also enjoyed the puppets, hand bells, scrapbooking, and of course dancing the night away in true “Baptist” style!  The staff at Happiness Retreat are awesome and their sole mission is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone there and to make sure our residents and “special” friends know that God made no mistakes when He created them- that we are all created in His image- in the Image of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit- we are image bearers!  Our time at Happiness Retreat makes our spirits lighter and rejuvenates us to continue His good work!  We love Happiness Retreat and the memories we make!

Special Guests at Hamilton’s Crossroads Baptist Church Children’s Camp

imageimageimageimage

Annually, the residents of Stegall Home are invited to be the special guests for the Hamilton’s Crossroads Baptist Church Children’s Camp.  They enjoy sharing in the unconditional love of Jesus shown by the children and members of Hamilton’s Crossroads.  They are treated like royalty and given the VIP treatment.  We shared a supper together, did crafts, worshipped through music, and enjoyed watching a skit presented by the children that showed how to give unselfishly- which is exactly what this church does for our home.  We look forward to seeing our special friends next year.  Thank you Hamilton’s Crossroads- we love you!

Garden of Plenty

image

The vegetable garden planted by the Girl Scout Troop is providing us with bountiful blessings!  We have lots of cucumbers and squash that we have picked.  The guys are enjoying cucumber salads, grilled squash, and they are anticipating biting into a fresh, juicy red tomato.  We are so proud of our garden.  Everyone is really working hard weeding, watering, and picking the veggies!  We are so blessed and God is so good!
