Summer Fun

Joy Cove residents and staff visited Pigeon Forge, TN for a week. Everyone had a great time and it was a summer vacation we won’t forget! Thank you to all those who bought raffle tickets, got your cars washed, bought baked goods and yard sale items, and donated food, yard sale items, and raffle prizes to help us raise money for this trip. It was definitely worth the hard work.

Family Gathering
The ladies at Lindsay Home enjoyed a huge celebration of Baptist Children’s Homes of NC’s 125th anniversary on June 15th. All residents and staff from across NC gathered at our main campus in Thomasville for a day a fun and fellowship. There was great music, food, lots of laughter and worship as North Carolina’s largest family spent the day together celebrating. The ladies especially liked the dunking booth where they were able to dunk BCH management staff, but also the enormous slides and great music. Seen here is the Joy Cove “family photo” .

DDM Enjoys a Day in Thomasville for Family Gathering 3
Family Gathering was established in 2000 by Dr. Blackwell and comes around only every five years. This day brings together every staff member, child, and resident from across all of BCH’s areas and services in North Carolina. When you put all those folks together, you get one of the largest “families” in the state! This year, DDM was very involved in various games and activities. The favorite hit (no pun intended) was the dunking booth. Our residents loved dunking the staff members of BCH. They had no mercy! The smiles on their faces were indescribable. Our DDM staff and residents also enjoyed the large, bouncy inflatables, McDonald’s burgers, looking for their tapestry squares, and listening to great music and testimony under “God’s beautiful canopy”. The day continued with a parade, praise and worship at the church, and a historical skit by Professor Q and his funny assistant, Beeker. The day ended with us capturing our first DDM group photo ever made, and many hugs were exchanged before departing from each other. It was simply a great day for all of BCH!

BCH Hosts Annual Special Ministries Camp in Thomasville
The last week in May holds a special tradition for our DDM ministry. It is our annual Special Ministries Camp, or commonly known as Respite Camp. Campers from around the state spend a few nights at our Family Resource Center on our Mills Home Campus in Thomasville while participating in well-planned, fun activities. Camp gives the parents or caretakers of these individuals a chance to go on vacation or simply rest at home while knowing their loved one is not only being taken care of but also having the time of their life! Activities enjoyed this year were bowling, swimming, grilling out, glow golf, multiple service projects, spirit-filled bible studies, dancing, eating, late night Cookout milkshake runs, toilet paper escapades, movies, etc…the list is too long! We had 10 campers this year which is the most we’ve ever accommodated. Our counselors were Johnathan Dillon from Stegall Home and Dee King from Mercer Home. A special ‘shout out’ goes out to DDM Office Manager, Carol Mabe, who put her heart and soul into this camp to make it a memorable event!
