Autumn Leaves

imageimageimageimageimage

The women of Lanier took their annual fall trip to the mountains in October staying at the BCH home there. They were able to enjoy a relaxing ride up to the mountains viewing the wonderful fall foliage. Once in Black Mountain there were shops to see, restaurants to eat at, and trails to walk. The women had an opportunity to tour the Billy Graham Training Center at the Cove in Asheville, take the Red Trolley tour around Asheville, and have some down time with card games and cooking at Craig Cottage. All in all it was a great way to re-connect with each other spending quality time together.

Family Appreciation Dinner

On Tuesday evening 11 October, the women from Lanier and the men from Mercer hosted a formal dinner party for family members in appreciation for the support they have shown not only to their family members but to the staff as well throughout the year.  smile  The evening started out with a prayer from Mr. Ron Huber, with a sit down dinner following. The residents helped prepare salad, lasagna, chicken alfredo, bread sticks, and delightful, petite small cheesecake squares for dessert. The evening turned out to be a big success with parents getting reacquainted with each other again. There was much laughter, conversations, and good times to be had for sure. This was just a prelude for the events to surely follow for the upcoming holiday season.  wink

The Doll Market

What a great summer this is turning out to be for the women of Lanier.  On a fine Saturday afternoon in June, the women of Lanier traveled to Greensboro to tour the largest doll shop in the USA, The Doll Market.  The afternoon was spent walking through the 30,000 square foot doll showroom viewing hundreds of their favorite dolls, from Barbie Dolls, to Marie Osmond Dolls and all dolls in between.  Not to mention all the different dolls form various other countries also.  So, needless to say, this was a trip worth taking on a Saturday afternoon for the Lanier women.  They were able to see various dolls and spend time together.  What a great day!! smile

Homeland Creamery

In June the ladies of the Lanier home in Sanford were fortunate to be able to tour a local dairy farm. Located in Julian North Carolina, Homeland Creamery produces fresh local whole milk, ice cream, buttermilk, chocolate milk, eggnog, and butter. The creamery has been producing these fine products for six generations since the 1930’s and has grown from a half dozen to over 200 cows now. The ladies were able to sample some of the products, see the milking process in action, watch as the baby cows were being fed, and hand milk the “simulated” cow. WOW, what a great experience!!  cheese

Giving a Helping Hand

During this time of need in Sanford, a few of the ladies at Lanier Home, Misty and Debbie, and the staff took time out of their day to give back to the town.  The town of Sanford was emotionally and physically devastated from last week’s tornado.  Both homes in Sanford was spared but a lot of homes and businesses were not as lucky.  Misty and Debbie, along with the caregiver, Nancy volunteered at Hunt Springs Baptist Church where a mission for those affected by the storm has been set up.  Misty, Debbie, and Nancy pitched in where there was a need.  Many thanks go out to all three of these wonderful ladies.
