Prom 2012

The Lovely Ladies of Hinkle House had a dazzling night! They had a hair stylist come out before the prom and get all ladies hair and makeup done. At the prom they got to take a limo ride, sing karaoke, play bingo, eat snacks, hang out with friends and dance till the sun came up! The Ladies all reported having a wonderful time and cannot wait until next years prom!
Thank you Pinedale Church for sponsoring such a wonderful event for our Ladies and their friends!

Mountain Trip 2012

The Hinkle House and Asheboro Home residents recently spent a long weekend at Craig Cottage in the North Carolina mountains. They greatly enjoyed the fellowship and time spent together. The Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway was popular with the ladies. There were many beautiful crafts on display, and an added attraction was the demonstration by a lady potter, who made a porcelain vase. After a picnic lunch, the ladies traveled the Parkway to Little Switzerland and the NC Minerals Museum which entertained with the beauty of the minerals and interesting information about them. For several ladies, the climax of the trip was the delicious Sunday lunch at the Daniel Boone Inn Restaurant in Boone, NC. As the getaway neared it’s end, several ladies mentioned their love of the mountains and reluctance to leave, but at the end of the journey all agreed it was good to be home

Time to get beautified!

On March 1st Hinkle House had its second group of Winston-Salem State students come out. This group focused on self esteem and pampering yourself. The ladies learned how to properly wash your face and hands, and why that is important. They also learned about different makeup; such as blush, eye shadow and lip gloss, and how to apply each properly. The residents also had some time to get their nails done! It was a fun evening full of beauty!
Pictured we have Nancy applying her blush. Marylene and Rosa applying eye shadow. Carla showing the group her trick to applying eye shadow. Marcie is painting her nails her favorite color ... PURPLE! Nicole is demonstrating applying lip gloss.
Everyone had a great time and look truly stunning at the end of the evening.
Thank you Winston-Salem State!

Things get cooking!

The Occupational Therapy program at Winston-Salem State University has been visiting the Hinkle House to teach skills of daily living to the residents. February 23 was their first visit and their topic was kitchen safety and cooking skills! The students assisted the Hinkle House ladies in making a spaghetti dinner, complete with homemade garlic bread and a tossed salad! Some skills that were reviewed included, kitchen safety, how to cook ground meat, boiling water to cook spaghetti, knife safety, proper hand washing, proper food washing, oven safety and correct portion sizes when serving. The students had a wonderful time teaching and the Hinkle House had a fantastic time learning! Thank you!
Pictured we have the group of chefs from the evening. Carla, Nicole and Marylene are working on cutting the vegetable to make the toss salad. Marcie and Rosa are working on browning the meat and heating up the pasta sauce. Nancy is working on making homemade garlic bread.
The meal was delicious! The Ladies certainly did an outstanding job with cooking the entire meal. Way to go Ladies!
