Judd continues to Excel!
Judd has been steadily working his way towards independence for many months now. He achieves two significant milestones this month, being named “Outstanding Employee” at our local CiCi’s Pizza and begining to learn and use the local Trans Aid bus system. Judd we are very proud of how you represent BCH and Davis House! We are grateful for the continuing prayers for each of our residents as they navigate this abundant life. God is moving here and we are thankful for your part in it!

Happiness Retreat 2011

This June Davis House was very blessed and was able to attend Happiness Retreat 2011. Old Town Baptist Church sponsored the ladies and caregivers to attend. Davis House had a wonderful time meeting new friends and participating in all the activities that Happiness Retreat had to offer. This year the theme was Big Apple Adventure. The staff did a wonderful job decorating and creating the whole New York theme. Residents even got to take their picture in front of the statue of liberty! Residents were able to enjoy the outdoor pool, activities inside during the day, bible study classes, great food, talent show, worship and a dance. Above we have pictured Nicole, Joshua, Zann and Crystal participating the creative movement class. Nancy, Stephen, Marylene, and Caregiver, Camille participating in the hand bells class. Joshua is showing off his scrap booking page. Eric, Judd and Zann getting into the fellowship. Nancy and Stephen participating in the puppets class.
All residents had a great time and were exhausted by the end. They look forward to being able to attend next year’s retreat. Thank you Old Town Baptist for being able to send the Davis residents and staff. And thank you, NC Baptist State Convention for hosting and putting on a GREAT retreat!

What a Month!

In June the Davis Gentlemen had their annual BBQ. It was a great time filled with good food and great friends! Among the guests invited were family, case managers, other BCH staff and friends from Old Town Baptist Church. We were blessed with a perfect evening so we could all enjoy the beautiful yard. Here we have pictured Jeremy and a housemates family getting the dance party started. Jeremy insisted that all great parties have a dance floor. Besides dancing there was a great game of bad-mitten going on with some Davis Residents and party guests. All guests have reported that they had a wonderful time and cannot wait for the Christmas Party! Guess we better get going on the planning!
June also took us to Raleigh for the 2011 Special Olympics where the guys were as amazing in spirit as they were on the field. Judd, Zann, and Jeremy each brought home gold medals and kept great attitudes throughout a very long, hot day. You made us SO proud, gentlemen.
At the end of the month we took North Myrtle Beach by storm with nights of dancing, concerts, and amusement park rides…and fantastic days spent rolling in the sand and lounging by the pool. It was a dream vacation for us all, made even better by having our new friend Eric with us. We are blessed to round out Davis House with a man who has such good taste in music and fine dancing skills! We finished the month completely exhausted, but grinning ear to ear. Here’s hoping July is as fantastic as June has been!

A Real Mountain Top Experience

The fellows from Davis House and their compadres from Stegall Home pointed our respective vans westward on Friday May 6th. We left from Winston Salem and Marshville, but when we arrived in Black Mountain we came together in more ways than one. What a spectacular time we had sharing an abundance of blessings in one of the most gorgeous parts of our great state. There was marshmallow roasting by a warm fire, wet fun at Andrews Geyser, adventurous hiking, a picnic and catching crawdads in the creek, great food, and to round it all out we worshiped together on the very top of a mountain Sunday morning. This group was SPECTACULAR together and sent ripples of blessing out around themselves to all that they encountered. Our short vacation was a very special glimpse of what Christian family can be. Thank you guys, staff, and extended family for making this such a truly glorious time.
