Jeremy joins the Davis Disciples

Jeremy, a 27 year old male from Kernersville, moved into Davis House on 11/12/09.  Jeremy was informed upon moving in from the other guys that they consider themselves the “Davis Disciples” and that he was now a Disciple like them.  Jeremy filled the last vacancy at Davis House.  Prior to coming, Jeremy had spent two weekends with the other resdients to determine if all would get along.  The other residents made him cards asking him to come back and to move into the home.  Jeremy sought out placement so that he can develop more independent living skills, such learning to cook and to do laundry.  He will be attending a day program in Winston-Salem and will soon be volunteering one day a week at a local Horse farm.  Welcome to our family Jeremy.

Davis House Forms a Bowling Team

Ricky, Judd, and Zann recently formed a bowling team to compete in the Special Olympics.  They played 10 practice games prior to the bowling start date to improve their scores.  Although they are playing for fun, it is hard not to see the competitive spirit shine through.

Josh Shows Off His Decorating Style

Josh invited all of Davis and Hinkle homes over to his house on the weekend before Halloween to see all of his decorations.  Josh had decorated every room in his home and the residents estimated there to be over 300 separate decorations.  However, this does not compare to his home at Christmas, in which he not only has every room decorated, but has a collection of Santa Clauses that numbers over 200.

Ricky Participates in the Crop Walk Benefit

Ricky, a resident at Davis, participated in a 2 mile walkathon on 10/18/09 in downtown Winston-Salem.  The “Crop Walk” was organized as a benefit to raise funds and awareness for hunger relief.  Proceeds from the walkathon will be dispersed between Second Harvest Food Bank and other organizations.  Ricky, who has lost 60 pounds in the last year mainly through walking, is looking forward to his next walkathon.
