BCH Hosts Annual Special Ministries Camp in Thomasville
The last week in May holds a special tradition for our DDM ministry. It is our annual Special Ministries Camp, or commonly known as Respite Camp. Campers from around the state spend a few nights at our Family Resource Center on our Mills Home Campus in Thomasville while participating in well-planned, fun activities. Camp gives the parents or caretakers of these individuals a chance to go on vacation or simply rest at home while knowing their loved one is not only being taken care of but also having the time of their life! Activities enjoyed this year were bowling, swimming, grilling out, glow golf, multiple service projects, spirit-filled bible studies, dancing, eating, late night Cookout milkshake runs, toilet paper escapades, movies, etc…the list is too long! We had 10 campers this year which is the most we’ve ever accommodated. Our counselors were Johnathan Dillon from Stegall Home and Dee King from Mercer Home. A special ‘shout out’ goes out to DDM Office Manager, Carol Mabe, who put her heart and soul into this camp to make it a memorable event!

Youth Group Visits our Home
The Bolick Believers had a wonderful day of games, fellowship, good food, and singing yesterday with a youth group from Kentucky. The boys said “they must be famous to have people come that far just to visit them.” The boys were able to help them with service projects around the house and work together as brothers and sisters in the Lord serving Him. We talked about what it means to be a servant and how our “lights” shine as we do work unto the Lord. Rob was able to present the gospel to the group and challenged them to know Jesus because He could return at any time, it brought tears to my eyes.

125th Anniversary
The Bolick Believers traveled to Thomasville yesterday to celebrate Baptist Children Home’s 125th Anniversary. The day was full of big smiles, dancing, singing, food, fellowship, and fun. We marched in a parade with our banner that read “Bolick Believers.” I asked each resident what was their favorite part of the day and their responses were:
“i made new friends”, “the dunking booth where i got to throw the ball and dunk Mr. Keith”, “the singing”, “the dancing”, and “meeting my pen pal that i write in Thomasville.”
We were able to plant an oak tree in our yard in honor of the 125th anniversary. We are excited to watch it grow over the years; knowing we are part of history.

Poetry Explosion.
The boys at Alverta Bolick had a wonderful Saturday with a visit from a local poetry teacher. They made their own poetry books and learned about different types of poetry and the five senses that can be displayed through their words. The following are some of the poems that were created by each resident. Get ready… they are incredible! What a talented group of men we have at this home.
Bumblebee’s- Russel C.
I don’t like hornets nests
because they sting
i don’t like bumblebees
because i got stung once
i was outside one time and the bee was coming
straight into my hand, I hit the bumblebee
and walked into the house
to tell my mom
there are bees outside.

“On this hot day”- Alex P.
On this hot day, a pool would be refreshing.
I like jumping off the diving board
the water feels good.
When I jump off the diving board, I feel good
knowing I will land in a pool.
I tried to do a dive off a diving board
but it turned into a belly flop by mistake.
