BCH Hosts Annual Special Ministries Camp in Thomasville
The last week in May holds a special tradition for our DDM ministry. It is our annual Special Ministries Camp, or commonly known as Respite Camp. Campers from around the state spend a few nights at our Family Resource Center on our Mills Home Campus in Thomasville while participating in well-planned, fun activities. Camp gives the parents or caretakers of these individuals a chance to go on vacation or simply rest at home while knowing their loved one is not only being taken care of but also having the time of their life! Activities enjoyed this year were bowling, swimming, grilling out, glow golf, multiple service projects, spirit-filled bible studies, dancing, eating, late night Cookout milkshake runs, toilet paper escapades, movies, etc…the list is too long! We had 10 campers this year which is the most we’ve ever accommodated. Our counselors were Johnathan Dillon from Stegall Home and Dee King from Mercer Home. A special ‘shout out’ goes out to DDM Office Manager, Carol Mabe, who put her heart and soul into this camp to make it a memorable event!

Family Gathering III

June 15, 2010
Everyone at Asheboro Home had such a wonderful time at Mills Home in Thomasville for the Family Gathering III. Dr. Blackwell and the staff of Baptist Children’s Homes have worked hard to plan fun events throughout the year celebrating 125 years of Baptist Children’s Home existance. Family Gathering III was an opportunity for staff and residents of homes throughout the state to come together and celebrate with fun, food, celebration and worship. The ladies of Asheboro Home participated in activities including the bounce house, the dunking booth and had good food with cheeseburgers and ice cream. We proudly showed off our banner of Asheboro Home as we paraded through the street to the church where we finished the day with wonderful music and a program of the history of BCH.

The ladies of Asheboro Home enjoyed a fun filled weekend at the Bonclarken Conference Center in Flat Rock, North Carolina. Former residential caregiver, Rexanne Hege, planned the trip and the activities. The ladies enjoyed swimming, paddle boats, softball, crafts, Bible study and much more. Thanks to Rexanne Hege, Rich Fork Baptist Church and to all who donated to make this fun trip possible.

Food, Fun and Dance with “DJ Mickey”
May 27, 2010
The ladies of Asheboro Home were invited to participate in a night of food, fun and dance with DJ “Mickey” at the annual DDM Respite Camp dance on Thursday, May 27th. The camp offers respite to ten men and women with Developmental Disabilities. There was a 50’s theme and the ladies enjoyed getting all dressed up and three ladies even wore poodle skirts! The residents of the homes in Winston-Salem were also invited so the ladies of Asheboro Home were able to see old friends and meet some new friends. Thank you to the Respite Camp staff and campers for allowing us to participate in such a fun event. A special thank you to the wonderful DJ for providing such great music. The ladies had great time doing the twist and the hand jive!
